Paid Opportunity: Community Evaluators

Shaping Shieldfield - Help us to understand what makes the difference

We are recruiting a team of Community Evaluators to help reflect on our activities over the coming year. The Community Evaluators will decide what questions we want to ask and how we go about gathering information to help us understand the impact of our work. The group will undertake the evaluation activities, and meet regularly to discuss what we are finding out and what actions might follow.

We see evaluation as a shared learning journey with our communities. We want to make the evaluation process inclusive and representative of the people we work with so that our communities can be part of identifying what’s important to them.

What is the time commitment?

  • Starting October 2024 for 12 months

  • Total of 50 hours spread over the year including:

    • Introductory workshop to help people understand the role and confirm suitability (see dates below)

    • 3-4 group meetings to share and discuss what we’re learning

  • Paid at £12.00 per hour (Real Living Wage) on a sessional basis

What skills and qualities are we looking for?

Community Evaluators will:

  • Enjoy working in group settings

  • Have good communication and active listening skills

  • Be friendly and approachable

  • Be well organised and reliable

  • Have a passion for helping people to share what’s on their minds and be heard

  • Be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends

Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory reference. Community Evaluators will be expected to adhere to our policies and procedures.

Community Evaluators do not need to be Members of Dwellbeing. We want to hear from a range of views and experiences.

What will the Community Evaluators do?

You will:

  • Actively participate in group meetings, contribute your ideas and listen to others

  • Work within the team to develop evaluation activities

  • Carry out evaluation activities that have been agreed with the group

  • Report back from your observations and conversations

Please note, this role does not require perfect English language skills. The Community Evaluators will be supported by Dwellbeing Worker Members and an Independent Evaluator. The Independent Evaluator will provide independent and experienced input to the design, delivery and reporting of the evaluation activities and is responsible for writing the formal report. The Community Evaluators will contribute their views in ways that suit them - for example, voice notes, conversations, visuals, photographs, scrapbooks.

How will you benefit?

Dwellbeing Community Evaluators will have the opportunity to:

  • Build interpersonal skills and confidence through buddying with others

  • Benefit from training in community organising

  • Experience doing things alongside others and being part of a team

  • Contribute their ideas and experience to design and deliver activities

  • Use creative skills and abilities to record and report what they find out

  • Become more active in the Shieldfield community

  • Have fun!
