Workshop Report: Renewing Our Public Spaces

In November, Dwellbeing Shieldfield launched a series of workshops aiming to improve the co-design of public spaces. Thank you to everyone who came along to the first workshop which explored how the quality of our public spaces has an impact on our health and wellbeing.

Twenty-three people took part in group discussions about what would make a positive difference to the green spaces, traffic and transport and health and wellbeing in our area. Together we came up with practical steps that could be taken to make these changes happen. Outcomes from the workshop have been shared with Newcastle City Council to inform Newcastle’s Movement Strategy and Newcastle’s Parks and Allotments public consultation.

What happens next? The ideas from the workshop will be reviewed by Dwellbeing members and refined and prioritised to create an action plan. This will inform a set of co-design workshops in early 2025. The workshops will focus on one location in Shieldfield and will generate designs for public space improvements based on the priorities in the action plan.

Three ways to get involved…

  1. Share the report with your friends, neighbours, colleagues and encourage them to contribute.

  2. Take part in workshops to shape designs for public spaces improvements in Shieldfield. Details coming soon.

  3. Join Shieling Working Group to get more involved in making public space improvements in Shieldfield. The group meets at Forum Cafe at a time to suit the members. For details contact hannah@dwellbeingshieldfield.org.uk
