Urban Design Traineeship Opportunity

Dwellbeing Shieldfield is looking for a Shieldfield resident to work with us on developing plans for public space improvements and interventions in the neighbourhood. The Trainee will be jointly mentored by Dwellbeing and architects/planners, Harper Perry, with input from relevant council officers and researchers. 

This activity is part of our Shieling programme which is focused on making improvements to the public realm. The trainees will build skills/knowledge in urban planning, architecture and co-design and help to shape finished plans for public realm and transport improvements that will lead to implementation.


The Trainee will learn how to:

  • navigate planning processes

  • engage communities in co-design

  • produce accessible information resources 

  • negotiate with stakeholders

  • use design software (e.g. CAD)

Shieling Trainee (8 hours per week)

Contract: Fixed term for 9 months from September 2024

Pay: £12 per hour
