We are delighted to welcome two new people to our team.

Tigist Tegegne joined us in July as Project Coordinator for Dwellbeing Community Chefs. This new role will add capacity to the project at an exciting stage. Over 6 months, Tigist will work with volunteer chefs and the Dwellbeing team to develop a business plan for this resident-led food activities in Shieldfield.

In this role, Tigist will build on her experience of setting up her own food business specialising in Ethiopian cooking and delivering events as Caretaker for our Shieling Programme. Tigist will ensure that the shared vision of Dwellbeing Community Chefs - to cook and share food in ways that build friendship and connection, skills and confidence - remains at the heart of this project.

Tigist says, “I will work hard to develop a Dwellbeing chef project while sharing what I know and learning from others.”

In September, Zouhal Younis started the Shieling Traineeship in Urban Design. Zouhal will be jointly mentored by Dwellbeing and architects/planners, Harper Perry, to build skills and knowledge in urban design and help to shape finished plans for public space and transport improvements. The Trainee will learn how to navigate planning processes, negotiate with stakeholders and engage communities in co-design. They will also learn how to use design software and produce new resources about planning and development in Shieldfield.

We’ve already started planning the first public events and a series of co-design workshops so that residents can contribute ideas to the changes they want to see.

Zouhal was a member of the working group that helped to create Shieldfield Youth Programme and has more recently volunteered to deliver activities with young people. Zouhal is currently studying International Relations and Politics at Northumbria University.

Zouhal says, “Starting this traineeship feels like the first steps towards building the future of shieldfield I always imagined !”

The Traineeship has been funded by Newcastle University (ESRC Impact Acceleration Account - Strategic Fund) and is part of our Shieling programme.
